Impact of Amazon: Future of Offline Stores By. Hyunggeun Lee

How often do you shop at Amazon? or How many times a week do you visit Amazon websites?
Even for me, I buy most of the stuff that I need through Amazon and visit Amazon websites at least once or twice a day. There are many advantages to shopping at Amazon. Just by searching a few words more than thousands of items are searched and ready to be ordered. We can compare pricing easily, look on ratings and review to see the quality of the item. Even if I don't like the item that I brought I can easily return the item. Other than these reasons, I think the major reason for purchasing through Amazon is because of the price. Since every online shop does not need to pay for the rent or utilities for maintaining the shops, the overall price of the products is cheaper than offline stores. The price of offline stores is sometimes double or triple the price online. For a student like me, tries best to shop as cheap as possible and just a couple of dolors matters to me. For these reasons more people especially young adults are spending more time and money at Amazon or any other online shop rather than the offline shops. As a result, tons of offline stores are having a difficult time paying their rent and paying their employees and close the business. In my opinion, the industries of online stores will be bigger and bigger and fewer people will visit offline stores in many different industries.

  1. Amazon is definitely changing the expectations of consumers and raising the bar for the online industry as a whole. Consumers now expect stores to have that convenience of having a search bar that provides you with anything you want, they expect the low prices, and (something you didn't mention), they expect to receive their items quickly. For many stores 7-14 day shipping was normal, then it went down to 5-7 days, and now all stores offer 2-day or 1-day shipping because Amazon set the precedent with their "Prime" membership. Amazon is definitely changing a lot things in the industry, so I think you chose a solid research topic!

  2. I really like your idea! Like Quelcy mentioned, I think you should also include the shipping time for Amazon. Amazon Prime is one of main reasons why I choose it over any other websites. Living in 2019 definitely has it perks. No longer do we have to bother driving to a store and searching store shelves for the things we need. You can mention how time consuming that can be and all. You can also talk about the Amazon headquarters and their effects on its competitors. For example, if the Amazon headquarter did come to Long Island, how would it affect the stores/neighborhoods near it (gentrification). Good luck on your paper!
